The Year Abroad
The year abroad is described as one of the most exciting
and popular parts of the degree. It is a time for personal as well as academic
development, and employers look on it extremely favourably as an indicator of
adaptability in employees. The coursework and examination marks obtained during
this year will count towards your final degree so, academically-speaking, it is
just as important as any of your other years here.
A tradition of Year Abroad schemes
Reading was one of the first universities to set up a year
abroad scheme within the Socrates/Erasmus exchange programmes, and therefore we
are well equipped to ensure that it runs smoothly and that it proves to be an
invaluable part of your studies.
A choice of destinations
As an Italian Studies student with us, the third year of
your degree programme will be spent abroad at an Italian University, or in some
cases on a work placement with an Italian firm. Current partner universities in
Italy include: Naples, Rome, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Bologna, Venice, Pavia, and
Padua. Students are given a choice of university and in most cases are placed
in their first-choice institution.

handbook.
