Flint Ball

This curious ball of flint was excavated from beneath the water table in a well in the south of the trench. It has been nick-named 'the cricket ball' on site because it is practically the same size, shape and weight. The function of this presumably heavily modified flint nodule is still a mystery with postulations ranging from grinding tools to Roman sporting equipment!
