When to apply
There is no specific deadline to apply for most courses, and applications will be considered until the course is full. However, to allow time for us to process your application we recommend that you apply by the following dates for admission in October:
You should apply for a postgraduate taught course - MA/MSc, etc. - as early as possible. We recommend that UK students should apply by 1 August for entry in October.
International students should apply by 1 June or earlier, if possible, to ensure there is enough time to get a visa, if applicable.
Some courses have earlier application deadlines:
- PGCE Primary Teaching - 1 December
- MSc Speech & Language Therapy - 1 December. (You should also only apply if you have actually completed your undergraduate degree and know your result)
- PGCE Secondary Teaching - This is a very popular course so please apply early.
Key criteria to consider when applying
In order to be successful in your application for one of our postgraduate taught courses, you will typically need to meet each of the following criteria:
- Academic - you will need to meet the academic entry requirements of your chosen course
- Financial - if you plan to study on a full-time basis
- English language - if you are an international student, you must meet our English language requirements before you can begin one of our courses.

How to apply for postgraduate taught courses
The quickest and easiest way to apply for a postgraduate taught course at the University of Reading is through our online application service. This allows you to complete your application information, attach electronic copies of your academic transcripts, certificates and other supporting information and also provides a facility for an email request to be sent to your referees enabling them to send your supporting references directly to us.

What happens after you apply
The University has a simple process for assessing your application as outlined below:
When we receive your application form, we will send you an acknowledgement of receipt.
Your application will then be passed on to the Admissions Tutor for your degree course. The Admissions Tutor will decide whether to offer you a place.
To ensure that a decision is made as quickly as possible, please ensure that you include all the necessary documentation, including references, with your application form.
If your application is successful, we will send you a letter offering you a place at the University and explaining any conditions that you have to meet. We will also include accommodation information if you will be studying at the University full-time.
If we decide that we are unable to offer you a place, you will receive a letter from us letting you know this.
