John Guest Collection

John Guest (1911–1997) was literary advisor to Longman, 1949-1972, and subsequently to Penguin.

He wrote Broken Images, A Journal, about his experiences of war, published by Longmans Green & Co in 1949 and by Leo Cooper in 1970.  Material on the publication of his book can be found in the collections here references LC A/2/282 and MS 1393 2/310/16.

The collection contains personal and business letters from 120 eminent authors.  Major correspondents include John Betjeman, Christopher Fry, L.P. Hartley, Francis King, Harold Nicolson, William Plomer, Mary Renault, David Storey and A.N. Wilson.
