University Collaborative Awards for T&L
The aim of the University's collaborative awards is to recognise and reward groups of staff who have made exceptional, significant and ongoing contributions to the student learning experience.
This could either be through collaborating as a group to exceed goals beyond what could be achieved individually, or creating and working as a group in order to generate new solutions that demonstrably impact upon colleagues and/or students. The award scheme is open to all staff who are involved in teaching and have been actively supporting teaching and learning initiatives.
It is expected that the composition, size, and activities of groups will vary across the University, but all groups must have a minimum of 3 members.
Applications from multidisciplinary teams that demonstrate collaboration beyond expected functional and discipline 'boundaries' are particularly welcome.
Applications should demonstrate how the approach adopted by the project team differs from 'business as usual'.
Examples of collaborative work might include:
- A group who have worked together to substantially re-develop an existing module in an innovative way (i.e. not business as usual)
- A group who have identified and designed new ways of working that support student learning
- A group who have developed innovative extra/co-curricular opportunities that enhance student learning and development
All Applicants must:
- Articulate the aims, objectives and rationale for the team's approach;
- Outline how the team works collaboratively, including how students have been directly involved with the team, and the advantages of this (i.e. what has been achieved beyond that which could have been done by a group of individuals);
- Provide evidence of the impact of the collaborative work, specifically how it has enhanced the student learning experience, and how this impact has been/will be evaluated;
- Identify how the outcomes and impact of the work have been/will be disseminated;
- Be supported by the Head of School/Service of the Team Leader.
The Collaborative Awards Selection Panel would particularly welcome applications which demonstrate alignment with the University Teaching and Learning Strategy.
Groups of staff are invited to submit a single application to the Collaborative Awards Selection Panel for consideration. The Panel will select up to three groups to be awarded a total of £3000 (per group). Applications will be selected according to the extent to which they meet the scheme criteria.
Applicants should bear in mind that this is a competitive process as a limited number of awards are made each year.
The Collaborative Awards Selection Panel comprises:
- Two Teaching and Learning Deans, one of who will act as Chair
- Head of University Library & Collections Service (or their nominee)
- A CQSD representative
- RUSU Education Officer
The application involves making a case for an award using an online form (see below). Applications must include the following:
The person putting the group forward for an award. This may be a member of the group that is applying for the award, or someone external to the group who wishes to see the group's work recognised.
The key member or one of the key members of the group applying for the award. (This may be the same person as the Nominator.)
Group team members
All members of the group applying for the award. Indicate the percentage of the award that each group member should receive. This should total 100%.
Applicants are asked to confirm whether any team members have previously been awarded a Collaborative Award or any other award(s) at the University and to provide details as appropriate.
Case for award (1000 words maximum)
In this section, applicants should address each of the scheme criteria as stated above.
The team leader is asked to confirm that their Head of School/Service is supportive of the application, and is therefore expected to have discussed the application with them prior to submitting it.
The application is in a Word format and can be accessed either on campus or off campus using VPN.

HOW SHOULD I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION?
Applicants must convert the completed application into one pdf file and submit this electronically to Martin Wise (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 5pm on the day of the submission deadline
Applicants may wish to refer to successful applications from previous years. Please note that the scheme criteria and application form have been revised for the 2018/19 scheme.

• Scheme opens: Monday 21st January 2019
• Closing date for applications: Midday Monday 4th March 2019
Applicants will normally receive the Selection Panel's decision and feedback (usually via email) within four working weeks of the closing date.
Terms and conditions
Awards will be paid into staff salaries (subject to tax deductions). We are not able to make payments into staff SDA accounts.
Nominees must be employees of the University at the time payments are processed.
Awards cannot be paid to members of groups who are not University staff and paid through payroll (although they may be included in the application).
