The Centre for Applied Language Studies forms part of the School of Languages and European Studies and offers the following courses:

• In-sessional English support programme
• Institution Wide Language programme

Pre-sessional English Language courses

Our pre-sessional English Language courses offer academic English and study skills preparation for students planning to study at the University of Reading, or other UK universities.

Other specialised courses are available

In-sessional English support programme (IESP)

Our in-sessional English support programme supports those students at the University of Reading whose first language is not English.

Institution Wide Language programme (IWLP)

The Institution Wide Language Programme provides foreign language tuition for members of the University (staff and students) in all disciplines who wish to improve their language skills for academic or other purposes.

The following languages are offered for the academic year 2008-2009:

• Chinese (Mandarin)
• French
• German
• Greek (Modern)
• Italian
• Japanese
• Spanish
