Discipline and Misconduct

All University employees are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner in keeping with the Code of Good Practice of the University and to observe the terms and conditions of their contracts of employment. The disciplinary process provides a fair and effective framework for managers to deal with unsatisfactory conduct or behaviour, to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and consistently.

The Disciplinary Procedure detailed here applies to all staff including full and part-time employees, those on permanent, fixed term and temporary contracts of employment. The same procedure applies to all members of staff irrespective of job family or contract classification, including all academic colleagues. This has been in place since 1 January 2017.

It is important to distinguish between issues in relation to misconduct, covered by the Disciplinary Procedure and issues in relation to ill health or poor performance; the HR Partner or HR Adviser for your School / Function will support managers to deal with discipline and performance issues, their advice should always be sought at an early stage.
