People Development

Welcome to People Development the home of staff learning and development for the University of Reading. People Development aims to provide a wide range of learning opportunities to help you and your teams to reach your full potential whilst working at the University.

Please note that development in relation to teaching and learning activity is provided by CQSD.

What do we offer?

People Development offer a wide range of learning and development opportunities including open sessions, online resources, locally delivered training (including IT), coaching and mentoring. You can navigate our pages by viewing:

  • Professional Behaviours: suggestions and links to information about how to develop your competence against each of the six professional behaviours; and
  • Induction: for those new to the University.   

Courses Available 

Supporting learning

You will want to make the most of training activities you attend by implementing your new learning at work. We would like you and your manager to use the following Learning and Development form to identify what you want from the training activity before attending. After the activity, please meet with your manager again so they can support you with your plans to implement your learning or skills in the workplace.

Delivering training at Reading

Delivering training sessions: best practice shows the basics of planning a session in order for it to be relevant, well structured and a learning experience. 

Support available for internal trainers to book via Employee Self Service:

  • Annual train the trainer course for design and delivery of engaging training sessions
  • Espresso sessions on presentation skills - theory and practice
  • Alison Hackett and Susan Thornton from the People Development team can offer support and advice with planning your session.
