Building Managers - Module 1 Fire Safety

INTRODUCTION:

To support newly appointed staff who have taken on the role as a University Building Manager. This module provides training support for their fire safety management responsibilities.

AIMS:

  • To enable a University Building Manager to understand their responsibilities in assisting the University meet its legal obligations for fire safety.
  • To enable a University Building Manager to understand what his/her duties and responsibilities are in relation to fire safety management in a building.
  • To enable a University Building Manager to access the Wren Fire Risk Assessment and be able to understand the scope and content of a fire risk assessment.
  • To enable University Building Managers to recognise and understand the fire safety protection measures within their buildings.
  • To provide University Building Managers with an awareness and a working knowledge of University Safety Guide 34A - Fire Safety Management and Guidance for Building Occupants.

OBJECTIVES - ON RETURNING TO THE WORKPLACE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Successfully manage fire safety within their building(s) including carrying out periodic fire safety checks
  • Recognise and understand the fire safety protection measures within their buildings.
  • Carry out appropriate follow up action to complete Wren Fire Risk Assessment actions for the building.
  • Be confident of who to contact when advice and assistance is needed.
  • Produce an effective fire evacuation plan for your building.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?:

All existing building managers who have yet to receive any fire safety training to support them in their role. All newly appointed building managers.
