Event Safety

AIMS:

To assist those who are responsible for organising events e.g. departmental functions and social events, to understand the health and safety issues which may need to be considered as part of organising and running an event.

OBJECTIVES ON RETURNING TO THE WORK PLACE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Provide information on the University requirements for events;
  • Provide information on the University event notification procedure;
  • Provide information on the Licensing requirements;
  • Provide information on common safety and fire safety issues which need to be considered and control measures which may be adopted;
  • Provide information on how to complete a health and safety risk assessment covering general and fire safety related issues;
  • Information on the use of contractors;
  • Sources of further information and guidance.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:

Any staff member who is responsible for organising events, newly appointed staff and students from Hall JCRs and key personnel from RUSU. It is also appropriate as a refresher for staff and students who last attended such a course more than 3 years ago.

PRE-COURSE PREPARATION:

Attendees should have read Safety Guide 33 - Event Management.
