25 November 1998: PARNUTS - Draft Processed Cereal-Based Foods and Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children (Amendment) Regulations 1998

JFSSG Letter, 25 November 1998

Draft Processed Cereal-Based Foods and Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children (Amendment) Regulations 1998

Following the adoption of Commission Directive 98/36/EC (see
3 April 1998) which amends Directive 96/5/EC on processed cereal-based foods and baby foods for infants and young children, amendments are required to the equivalent UK Regulations. The amending Directive sets maximum fortification rates for vitamins, minerals and trace elements, and introduces additional protein provisions for a range of products, namely pour-over sauces, cheese dishes and dairy deserts, which would otherwise have been prohibited by Directive 96/5/EC after 31 March 1999.

The letter circulates draft Regulations which would amend the 1997 UK Regulations (SI 1997 No. 2042). Comments are requested by 22 January 1999.
