Foods for Infants and Young Children - New Regulations
The letter is to announce the making of the ‘Processed Cereal-based Foods and Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children Regulations 1997 (SI 1997 No 2042). They were laid before Parliament on 21 August and will come into force on 31 March 1999. The Regulations set labelling, compositional and manufacturing requirements for cereal-based baby foods or other baby foods and implement Commission Directive 96/5/EC on processed cereal-based foods and baby foods for infants and young children. After 31 March 1999 it will be an offence to sell, label or manufacture a baby food which does not comply with the Regulations.
