22 May 2000: PARNUTS - Foods For Special Medical Purposes (Scotland) Regulations 2000

FSA Scotland letter, 22 May 2000

Foods For Special Medical Purposes (Scotland) Regulations 2000

The letter announces that the above Regulations have now been made. They were laid in Parliament on 9 May 2000 and come into force with effect from 1 November 2001.

These Regulations, which extend to Scotland only, implement Commission Directive 1999/21/EC on dietary foods for special medical purposes (O.J. No.L91, 07/04/99, p.29). The Regulations define foodstuffs which may be sold as "Food(s) for Special Medical Purposes". They introduce mandatory labelling requirements including nutrition labelling; lay down compositional requirements for vitamins, minerals and trace elements; and introduce a notification procedure for new products.
