Spreadable Fats - Marketing Standards
Council Regulation 2991/94/EC deals with labelling and compositional requirements for spreadable fats. The Regulation gave the European Commission powers to draw up more detailed rules in certain areas and two such detailed Commission Regulations , 577/97/EC and 1278/97/EC, were published in April and July this year. A third Regulation is likely to be published in the near future following a vote in Brussels on 11 September.
The MAFF letter attached a copy of the text considered at the September meeting. The new Regulation relates to the method for the control and checking of fat content declarations required under the Council Regulation.
