2 May 1997: PARNUTS - Proposed Amendments to the Directive on Processed Cereal-Based Foods and Baby Foods
MAFF Letter, 2 May 1997
Proposed Amendments to the Directive on Processed Cereal-Based Foods and Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children
The Commission has circulated a proposal to amend Directive 96/5 on Processed Cereal-Based Foods and Baby Foods for Infants and Young Children so as to:
- amend the protein requirement for products made from cheese and other ingredients;
- exempt sauces used as accompaniments to meals from the protein requirements;
- add a list of maximum limits for certain vitamins and minerals in accordance with recommendations of the EC Scientific Committee for Food (SCF)
The Ministry letter points out that the first two items above have been included at the request of the UK to permit the continued marketing of a range of weaning foods currently on sale and fulfils a commitment made by the Commission at the time of adoption of Directive 96/5.
There is to be a meeting of the Commission Working Party on the proposal on 15 May.
