A transcript is an academic transcript is an official document that shows:
- The modules you have taken in each year of study
- The first attempt (and reassessment as appropriate) marks/grades for each module taken
- The number of credits each module is worth and the total number of credits taken in each year of study
- Where applicable, the degree awarded, the classification and the date of award.
Please note,
Transcripts differ from degree certificates and diploma supplements, which are provided when you receive your award. You can read more information on these documents on our graduation page. There are also embargo periods throughout the year at which transcripts/the different views of your current marks may be temporarily ‘turned off’.
Different types of transcript
Depending on where you are in your student journey, the following transcripts may be available to you:
INTERIM TRANSCRIPT (with current academic year modules)
- Purpose - This transcript is designed to provide information on your current performance.
- What it will show - This transcript will show all your modules – both those you have previously taken, and those you are currently undertaking but are not yet complete.
- Overall module marks for your current modules will begin to appear on this transcript once modules are fully completed and processed by the University. It will have some wording at the top that explains that these marks are provisional and subject to change
Availability – This transcript will be available for most of the academic year but will be turned off for a short period during summer whilst assessments take place and results are processed (please see FAQs on embargos). You can access this transcript via self-service on RISIS.
STATIC TRANSCRIPT
- Purpose – This transcript is designed to provide continuing students with a record of all modules that have been signed off via the appropriate University Progression Board (UPB). Such module results are considered final and no longer provisional
- What it will show – This transcript will show all module marks from your previous year(s) of study. It will not show marks from your current academic year, as these marks are still provisional until signed off by the appropriate UPB.
- Availability – This transcript will become available once your marks have signed off at the appropriate UPB and your confirmed progression result has been released to you. It is then available at all times and is not subject to any embargo periods.
FINAL ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT
- Purpose - This transcript is designed for students who have fully completed their studies and have left.
- What it will show - This transcript will show you your award, degree classification, date of award and the relevant modules you have taken throughout your degree.
Availability - This transcript will be available within 7 days once you have received your final confirmed award. It is not available via self-service and must be requested by contacting studenthelp@reading.ac.uk.
How to access my transcript
If you have completed your degree, you will receive an enhanced transcript (in the form of the Diploma Supplement) at your graduation ceremony or soon after by post if you don’t attend graduation.
Please only request a transcript if you need one before graduation, or if you have graduated some time ago and no longer have your diploma supplement/transcript.
Both the confirmed modules and provisional (with confirmed modules) transcripts can be accessed through the student self-service area on RISIS either by:
- Selecting self-service letters under “what to do next”
- Or the Actions tab and then ‘Student Self-Service’
If you wish to access your final transcript, you will need to submit a request to studenthelp@reading.ac.uk providing your student ID number. If you do not have your student ID number then we will require your full name, date of birth and confirmation of the degree studied.
