What is the RED Sustainable Action Award?
The Reading Experience and Development (RED) Sustainable Action Award is one of the University of Reading’s Official Skills Awards. It is an opportunity for those currently studying at the University of Reading to gain awareness of sustainable issues and opportunities.
Note: If you are on the Global Sustainability Leaders Scholarship programme, this award is tailored to complement your existing journey.
Linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the award will challenge you to think about the wide-ranging opportunities you can undertake to support the development of a sustainable world.
The award is also flexible, so you can complete it alongside your studies at your own pace.
Why do it?
- Make a difference through actions that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (for example, working for a land conservation charity fulfils SDG 15 ‘Life on Land’)
- Deepen your understanding of real-world sustainability challenges
- Develop key skills valued by employers
- Receive a certificate that can be used on LinkedIn
- The completion will also be added to your diploma supplement annex and the graduation brochure
- Get invited to RED Celebration Event that runs every semester
How do I complete it?
The award is made up of two stages: Points Submission and Advocacy. To successfully complete the award, you must:
- Earn 25 points by completing a range of activities with a sustainability focus
- Reflect on what you’ve learned through your Advocacy task and by completing a short post-award survey
