Investigate. Innovate. Our PhD programme provides you the opportunity to explore and contribute with original solutions to challenges in computer science.

The Department of Computer Science is part of the larger School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences, which includes our world leading Department of Meteorology and several national research centres. The School has an active community of about 40 PhD students who work with a wide variety of industrial and academic partners to achieve significant social and economic benefits.

We offer flexible modes of study designed to fit with your needs. Our PhD is available for study on a full-time basis over three years and part-time over four to six years. Both full-time and part-time variants are available for study in Reading or at a distance.

RESEARCH TOPICS

Our programme includes research topics such as advanced computing and programming paradigms (Parallel and Distributed Computing, Cloud and mobile computing), computational intelligence, machine learning, data mining, predictive analytics, big data and computer vision.

All postgraduate research students automatically become members of the University-wide Graduate School. The Graduate School provides training, professional development, study space, advice and administrative support in a dedicated building for the postgraduate research community at Reading.
