Dr Chippindale's research interests lie in solid-state inorganic chemistry, focussing on the synthesis and structural characterisation of materials with interesting chemical and physical properties. Current solids under investigation include microporous materials, such as open-framework metal phosphates, which have zeolitic properties, and transition-metal cyanides, some of which undergo fascinating structural transformations on heating. The cyanide-based research is carried out in collaboration with , Department of Chemistry. Single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction techniques are used to determine the structures and phase changes of these materials.
