Introduction to Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

The module provides an introduction to the key concepts of bioinformatics and computational biology and will use practical examples to demonstrate how research can be enhanced across the biological sciences. This is a cutting edge topic and the transferrable skills gained are highly sought after by industry. Students may also choose to enhance their final year project by using the skills gained in this module either to complement or offer an alternative to traditional laboratory based research. The programme content includes 10 lectures on the theory and real world application of bioinformatics to research, 10 programming lectures and 10 practical sessions on programming and the application of web apps and online databases.
