Msc by Research Biomedicine -
The MRes course in Biomedical Research is designed to help students achieve a successful career in research. In many cases students will go on to pursue a PhD, while other students will go straight into work in research labs.
There are numerous types of organisations engaging in biomedical research that would be suitable destinations for our graduates. These include pharmaceutical companies (e.g. GSK, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Merck, Novartis, Johnson & Johnson, Bayer, Sanofi etc); biotech companies (e.g. Genentech, Amgen, Genzyme, MedImmune etc); research products and services companies (e.g. GE Healthcare, Lonza, Qiagen, Invitrogen etc) as well as hospitals and university and research institute labs. This rich diversity of employers is reflected by the hundreds of global networks and internet portals that exist on the subject. For example, the leading professionals networking website, 'LinkedIn', has several groups dedicated to Biomedical Sciences and its various specialisations.
To help you acheive your careers goals we will provide you with careers support throughout the MRes programme. The university provides careers advice and support through the Careers, Placement and Experience Centre (CPEC) while the School of Biological Sciences has close links with industry and employability and careers skills are embedded throughout the course.
