BA Ancient History

The cultures of Greece and Rome lie at the heart of Western civilisation, and resonate throughout the world. Whether you already have some familiarity with the ancient world or not, we welcome you to study the fascinating history, literature, culture and art of two societies that have done much to shape our own. The Department of Classics provides a range of stimulating and challenging courses for students from a wide variety of backgrounds, and we regularly update our provision to embrace new approaches to the ancient world.

What is Anicent History?
The main focus of the degree is Greek and Roman history, with a choice of themes in social, cultural and religious history. Students are attracted to our degree because of its broad scope; at Reading we cover the ancient world, its histories, its societies, its languages, its concepts, and its legacy in its entirety, from the Bronze Age to the 21st century.

Entry Requirements

UCAS Tariff: ABB/AAC from three A level subjects. Total points exclude Key Skills and General Studies.
Subjects required: No requirement to have A2, AS or GCSE level in either Latin or Ancient Greek.

International Baccalaureate: 6,6,5 in three higher level subjects

Mature Applicants are warmly welcomed.
