4 years full-time including a 1-year paid work placement
This degree programme focuses on the broad areas of accounting and management, with an international emphasis and is designed to prepare graduates for a variety of responsible and professional managerial roles in both the public and private sectors. Many graduates enter training contracts with accountancy firms whilst others find roles in banking and finance, management accountancy, the civil service, sales and marketing, retailing and other service industries. You will develop detailed knowledge, critical understanding and a range of technical application skills relating to the key business function of accounting and its three core areas of financial reporting, management accounting and business finance. This is complemented by the management aspect of the programme, which will give you a critical understanding of the factors, both internal and external to the organisation, that impact on its success.
The core areas of accounting continue into the second and final year while the management element allows you to increasingly tailor your study to areas of personal interest such as marketing, organisational behaviour, strategy, information systems, human resource management, entrepreneurship and ethics. You will gain a range of professional and technical skills, and a heightened sense of commercial awareness that will be immediately transferable to the business environment. In the third year you will have the opportunity to undertake either a one-year work placement or an optional work placement module. This experience will significantly enhance your CV and future graduate employment prospects, help you to build a professional network and provide a valuable opportunity to apply and further develop your knowledge and skills.
