For over a century, the University of Reading has been improving people’s lives.
In the past, we have pioneered the role of women in society (even before women had the vote) and played a leading role in legalising homosexuality.
Today, we remain dedicated to that same ethos of making the world a better place. Join a community that does just that.
It’s just UoR way.
We’re a world‑leading university in combatting climate change
From the creation of the now globally iconic Climate Stripes to pre-empting worldwide natural disasters, we are the ‘go to’ university for international climate analysts and governments. We're also at the forefront of improving climate education in schools and colleges for generations to come.
Alongside that, we’re finding new ways for people to live and grow crops in the harshest of environments and protecting all kinds of endangered species, like pollinators that make feeding the world possible.
Our dedication to social equality is all-embracing.
We’re committed to addressing inequality on both a local and global level. Our work on mental wellbeing is internationally recognised and our stance against injustice has led to changes in international law.
At home, we’re a close-knit community that’s welcoming, diverse and inclusive. We’ve received many awards for our equality, including a prestigious 2022 Stonewall Silver Employer award.
We’re also aiming to become the ‘greenest’ university in the UK and Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
Our award-winning, 130 hectare parkland campus is just as green on the inside; 100% of our electricity is from sustainable sources, less than 2% of our waste goes to landfill, we no longer invest in fossil fuels and our sustainable catering policy is a European first.
In the prestigious People and Planet University League for 2021 we were rated ‘First Class’ for the third year running.
Join us and you’ll become part of a caring community of both students and staff that lives, learns and thrives together with a single aim in common – to help make the world a better place for all of us.
