Papers of G.W. Series

G.W. Series (1920-1995) was Professor of Physics at the University of Reading from 1968 until 1982. His principal research interests were in the field of optical spectroscopy - the structure of atomic hydrogen, double resonance, spontaneous emission and optogalvanic spectroscopy. He was elected FRS in 1971.

The collection includes some biographical and personal material including several autobiographical notes and narratives on his career and scientific interests, written between 1963 and 1994. Also included are publications and editorial papers; correspondence, largely from his retirement years, and material on the founding of the European Journal of Physics, of which he was the first editor.
