Students in Schools
Registration for 2018 - 19 is now open!
The University of Reading has a long standing reputation for working with local schools. The 'Students in Schools' scheme which was formerly 'Student Tutoring' has been established for over 20 years and continues to go from strength to strength..
.The scheme enables students to volunteer to work alongside teachers in local schools with the aim of raising the aspirations of school pupils and encouraging them to continue into higher education.
Last year we saw almost 400 students volunteer in more than 40 local schools primary, secondary and special schools. Together they spent over 6.000 hours helping to make a positive difference to the learning experience of young people.
Feedback from students, teachers and school pupils is overwhelmingly positive. Students gain valuable experience in communicating their knowledge and ideas, as well as improving their self-confidence. Teachers welcome the additional support in the classroom and the opportunity to provide extra support to their pupils while school pupils enjoy having a new face and interaction in the classroom.
