The PGCert Traumatic Stress Studies is a flexible course divided in the Introductory module, Foundation Trauma and Advanced Trauma modules within 2 academic years.

Run by the Charlie Waller Institute (CWI) this Postgraduate Certificate comprises three 20-credit modules; the Introductory module, the Foundation skills module and the Advanced Trauma module. Each module is assessed and must be passed for the Postgraduate Certificate to be awarded. Attendance of 80% is required for each module if being assessed. Each module can be taken as a stand-alone and each of the training days of the Advanced Trauma module can be booked as individual workshops.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2023/24 have not yet been set. For your reference, entry requirements for 2022/23 were:

Description of entry requirements: You are normally required to have a relevant Honours degree in a discipline connected to mental health.

The exception to this is the PYMIN1 module, Introduction to Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment, where NO specific qualification or experience of CBT is required.

If the applicant has enough knowledge of CBT, he/she can opt to do the PYMIN3 (APEL) examination instead of the PYMIN1 (Introduction to CBT).

Pre-sessional English language programme

If you need to improve your English language score, you can take a pre-sessional English course prior to entry onto your degree.
