Study at an established global reputation for research in neuroscience disciplines including neurodegeneration, models of CNS disease, electrophysiology, regenerative medicine and stem-cell biology, behavioural neuroscience, cell-based assay, microscopy, molecular biology, cell culture and immunohistology. 97% of our research is of international standing (Research Excellence Framework [REF] 2021, combining 4*, 3* and 2* submissions – Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy).
You will have access to incredible facilities, including the £17 million Hopkins Building including electrophysiology and microscopy suites, Biological Resource Unit housing, full facilities for conducting research with cell cultures and biological tissues and state-of-the-art assay equipment.
Our strong links with national and international pharmaceutical industry gives you access to industrial laboratories and facilities to support your research. Many of our staff hold external appointments at various national and international research committees which provide you with additional opportunities for participation in conferences and other networking events.
We also encourage a collaborative working environment across the University giving you access to further knowledge and experience. In particular, the School of Pharmacy has strong collaborative links with Departments of Chemistry, Food and Nutrition, School of Biological Sciences and Agriculture.
You will be trained in a wide range of skills and experimental techniques, relevant to many industries, including pharmaceutical, food, healthcare and medical devices.
The projects you work on will be geared towards the needs of academic, industry and charity research priorities to ensure you receive a wide range of experiences give you maximum employability.
Strong links with the biomedical industry have provided previous students with working on collaborative research at overseas institutions.
