  • Year of entry
    2023/24
  • Course duration
    Part Time: 10 months

Suitable for both primary and secondary school teachers, our Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Reflective Practice) course is designed for those who either hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) already, or who are working towards the qualification.

Enhance your understanding of education and teaching through master’s-level study. This course comprises a mixture of face-to-face sessions and online tutorial support.

You will complete two assignments. One will address a whole-school issue, such as behaviour or inclusion. The other will involve an action research project designed to develop an aspect of your work in the classroom.

At the Institute of Education, we address our teaching to suit your individual needs. The structure of our postgraduate courses gives you the opportunity to create your own tailor-made course, shaping our programme to suit your needs and your personal career aspirations.

Your tutors are internationally or nationally renowned experts, and their research regularly has a direct impact on school curricula and learning techniques — both in the UK and abroad. As experts in their field, their research also directly informs the focus and content of your course.

Our teaching is interactive, experiential and innovative. We utilise a wide variety of technologies to enhance your learning, including use of presentation tools, interactive whiteboards, mixed media, social media and mobile technologies in our teaching, and screen capture in assessment.

Facilities

The Institute of Education is based on our historic London Road campus, which has undergone a £3m refurbishment of the classical Oxford-cloistered quadrangle to create a dedicated world-class education centre.

We have created custom-built spaces for the teaching of specialist subjects, including:

  • modern laboratories
  • musical studios, including an electronic drum kit room and a recording studio
  • well-equipped art studios and facilities for the practise of work in drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media
  • studios for wet photography and printmaking, including silk screen.

Alongside these fantastic facilities, you will also find places to eat and drink, as well as plenty of green space to relax in.

The Learning Hub

We have an incredible collection of teaching and research resources housed in the Learning Hub. A treasure trove for teachers and researchers, the Learning Hub contains an extensive selection of teaching aids for loan or reference, from big books to puppets. A printing and binding facility, and technical equipment library are also available for your use.

Research

98% of our research is of international standing (REF 2021, combining 4*, 3* and 2* submissions – Education).

For more information, please visit the Institute of Education website.
