Our MSc Applied Entomology prepares you for employment in the competitive entomology sector.
With a focus on hands-on and field-based training, and lectures taught by our leading academics, the MSc Applied Entomology provides you with exceptional grounding for a career in the sector. Relevant extracurricular activities are designed to help you to hone the skills, qualities and knowledge desired by top employers.
Less than 50% of your total contact hours are spent in the lecture theatre, meaning you can put your knowledge into practice as we give you specialist hands-on training. You will benefit from small field trip class sizes of between 5-20 students, and great emphasis is placed on individual support and your CV development.
IELTS: 6.5 overall
Entry requirements: Applicants are normally required to have obtained an honours degree in a suitable subject, such as biological science, geographical science, agricultural science or environmental science. Applicants should have gained or expect to gain a class mark of 2(1) or better (for example, 60%+, or the international equivalent, such as a B+ letter grade in the USA). Applicants holding 2(2) degrees may also apply and each case will be considered on its own merits.

There is a wide range of employment opportunities for people with expertise in applied entomology from the agriculture sector dealing with pest control and advice (e.g. FWAG, CABI, ADAS, FERA, Rentokil), to conservation and biodiversity (Natural England, Buglife, various Wildlife Trusts and similar organisations) through into research (e.g. CEH, GWCT). There are always many PhD opportunities for students with entomological expertise.
