Two students wearing purple RUSU hoodies stand behind a table talking to another student. Inside the 3Sixty nightclub in the RUSU building on Whiteknights campus Three students stand in front of a multi-coloured background, holding two pieces of cardboard to promote RUSU social media. One says "@rususnaps15", and the other "@RUSU tweets".

RUSU

Reading University Students’ Union (RUSU) is an independent organisation, based on Whiteknights campus, that exists to represent, support and provide opportunities for all students studying at the University of Reading.

The union building provides places to socialise, eat, drink, and study, and is also home to the largest nightclub in Reading. As a registered charity, all the revenue from RUSU’s bars, cafe and retail outlets goes directly to fund student activities such as representation, campaigns, the RUSU Advice Service, sports clubs, societies and volunteer groups.

As a student, you are automatically a member of the union, and entitled to have a say in directing the organisation. RUSU runs annual elections for more than 1,500 student representative roles and a termly Student Voice forum, to ensure that students’ views are shared with both the University and local community.

RUSU is led by student-elected officers whose roles are to create positive change for students and decide on the direction and priorities of your students’ union. As members of the University’s decision-making committees, they campaign on behalf of students.

Student activities

The Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) is home to a wide range of sports clubs, societies and volunteering projects, all of which are run voluntarily by students. There are currently over 150 groups, so there’s bound to be something for you. All students are welcome to join any group they wish.

Media streams

Sports and dance

We have 56 groups in this category, covering both competitive and non-competitive sports and dance. Whether you would like to take up a sport or style of dance for the first time, or you’re a seasoned professional, everyone is welcome.

Volunteering

From wildlife and conservation projects to volunteering with children and the elderly, RUSU offers a range of volunteering opportunities. Whether you can spare a few hours here and there, or are looking to volunteer on a regular basis, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

Junior Common Rooms

Junior Common Rooms (JCRs) are community-focused groups of people who organise social events such as fundraisers and sporting activities, and make your hall an inclusive community for all. These representatives are students who have previously lived in halls and have been elected by students.
