Getting your results on 18 August?
What you need to know

If you’re waiting on your results, here’s what you need to know to find your place at Reading.

From Thursday 18 August 2022, we will have a number of places available in Clearing for 2022 entry.

Our hotline number will be published a few days before Clearing. If you Register Your Interest, we’ll send you a reminder of our hotline number, a preview of the courses available, and indicative entry requirements before Clearing opens.

We’ll regularly update our list of courses available in Clearing as courses become full, so be sure to consult that before you apply. If your course isn’t available, we’ll have suggestions about alternative courses in the same subject area as well as in related subject areas.

Discover our courses

Make a list of the courses you’re interested in at Reading, along with their UCAS code. On all of our course pages, we have the title of our courses followed by the UCAS code (a combination of letters and numbers).

  • Almost all of our courses have one-year placement (internship) opportunities. Often known as a sandwich course, you can study for Year 1 and Year 2, complete a one-year placement in Year 3, and come back to do your final year of study in Year 4. These courses will have a different UCAS code to the three-year course. If you’re not sure about whether you would like the four-year placement or three-year course option, it’s usually better to choose the four-year option and you can switch to the three-year option during your studies.
  • We offer four-year integrated master’s courses (for example, MPharm Pharmacy, MEng in Biomedical Engineering, MMath Mathematics, MPAS Physician Associate Studies, etc.), which are an excellent way to achieve a master’s degree in just four years. These variations will be listed under the relevant subject areas for undergraduate study.
  • If you’re considering a switch from your original interests to a different course but you don’t have the required subject A levels, then we offer Foundation programmes in a number of subject areas. This is an excellent route to a degree if you do not have the typical entry qualifications and are offered as four-year courses.
  • If you’re from outside the UK and don't have British A levels or equivalent qualifications, you can check your eligibility by country to gain access directly onto a full degree programme. If we can’t offer you a place on a degree course, our International Foundation Programme provides you with a pathway to an undergraduate degree.

If you have questions about what it’s like to be a student at Reading, why not chat with a current Reading student? They’d love to tell you about their experiences and can help with any questions you have.

Visit us

There are plenty of ways to get a taste of what life will be like at the University of Reading this year. If you receive a place at Reading via Clearing on Thursday 18 August, we will send you a Welcome and Information video and you'll also be invited to our dedicated online Clearing Q&A session at 14:00 on Thursday 18 August, which you can watch at time that best works for you or join when we are answering your questions live. You can also join our Visit Day on Friday 19 August. The invitation to both of these and other on-campus opportunities will be emailed to you separately from your offer letter.

You can also get a feel for living and studying at Reading on our Virtual Experience Hub, where you can explore our campuses, view inside departmental buildings, facilities and accommodation using our 360 tours, or watch one of our students show you around. On 19 August, we'll be hosting campus and accommodation tours to help you get to know our campus. After that, you will still be able to watch the recording of our Clearing Welcome and Information talk, sent in your offer email, as well as being able to book one of our self-guided campus tours.

We have range of Virtual Events which give further insight into our courses and subject areas, as well as dedicated sessions providing practical support about applying to university, including through Clearing. You can watch previous events as well as sign up for future events.

In addition to our great facilities on campus, be sure to check out the local area. Reading is a great place to live, and as it has grown and developed, it has become a truly vibrant and diverse community – one that's great for socialising. And with Reading as a central train hub to the South West, South East, Midlands and London, our students find traveling home or to other parts of the UK really convenient.

Chat to our students

Don’t just take it from us – chat with our students. We have Student Ambassadors across a range of subject areas and across the globe who would love to answer any of your questions. From course-related questions to what it’s like to be a student, live on campus, or any other aspects of study and life, they can tell you about their experiences and help with any questions you have. We also have stories from students who found their place at Reading through Clearing . If you have questions about Clearing, check out our most frequently asked questions. If your question isn’t there, you can always ask us a question.

How to apply on Results Day

You’ll have two ways to apply to the University of Reading on Results Day. You can either call our Clearing Hotline (which we’ll publish a few days before Clearing) or complete our online application form.

Our Clearing hotline has a team of decision-makers. In most cases, we’ll be able to issue you an immediate decision over the phone. If you’re having trouble getting through or prefer not to wait in the queue, you can use our online application form. We’ve prepared a how-to guide, and on Results Day, we aim to make decisions on online applications within one hour, depending on how busy we are.

On your application make sure you:

  • include your results including each A level and GCSE result (or equivalent) You can upload attachments of your results or other supporting documents to the application
  • If you are applying from outside the UK and require an English Language qualification, make sure you include that. You can view accepted English Language qualifications, and they must be valid through to the start date of your course.
  • If you are from outside the UK, please attach a copy of your passport.

If you complete an online application and we cannot make a decision on your application due to missing information, we will contact you via email.

Both our Clearing hotline and online application form are assessed the same way so it doesn't matter which method you use; please choose one or the other (but not both).

If we are able to issue you an offer, congratulations! Please read our step-by-step instructions to help you accept your offer.
