Results 2022: what you need to know

If you have a Firm or Insurance offer for an undergraduate course at the University of Reading, this information will guide you through the next steps in the admissions process.

Results day

For many of our applicants, results will be released on Thursday 18 August. This process is also known as Confirmation and is when universities confirm whether they've been able to make your conditional offer unconditional.

From 08:30 on Thursday 18 August, you will be able to access your UCAS application using your UCAS personal ID number and password to check the status of your application with your Firm and Insurance choices. This will update with the following:

Unconditional - Firm choice with Reading Congratulations – we've been able to accept you onto your chosen course at Reading. We'll contact you via email in the next few weeks to provide more information about next steps, including details about Welcome Week and online enrolment.
Unconditional - Insurance choice with Reading If you haven't met the conditions of your Firm choice but you have met the conditions with Reading as your Insurance choice, congratulations. We've been able to accept you onto your chosen course. We will contact you via email in the next few weeks to provide more information about next steps, including details about Welcome Week and online enrolment.
Conditional (no change) - Firm choice with Reading  If your offer is showing as conditional, then please do not worry – we may still be waiting on additional documents, or there may be delays in information provided to us by UCAS. We will provide a reason for this to as many of our unconfirmed applicants as we are able to on Results Day. Our Frequently Asked Questions below will help to answer any queries you may have.
Unsuccessful - Firm and/or Insurance choice with Reading Unfortunately, you haven't met the conditions of your offer and we've had to withdraw your place.

If you are unsure whether we receive your results direct from UCAS or whether you need to send them to us, check the UCAS website to see which results we receive automatically. If your qualification(s) is not listed, you will need to scan and email them to us at applicantresults@reading.ac.uk.

Please feel free to contact us should you require anything further that is not addressed in our Frequently Asked Questions, either via our dedicated hotline on +44 (0) 118 378 8372 or at applicantresults@reading.ac.uk. We are open 09:00-17:00, Monday to Friday. We operate extended opening hours of 08:30-18:00 on A level Results Day, Thursday 18 August.

Change of course and (un)deferral requests

Complete our Change My Offer Request Form if you hold an offer for the University of Reading and would like to:

  • request a change of course
  • defer your place to 2023
  • commence your studies in September 2022 if you have previously requested a deferral to 2023.

Frequently asked questions: Results day and the confirmation process

How do I know if I have a place at the University of Reading?

Check the status of your application through UCAS using your UCAS personal ID number and password. We will also send you an email with your status on A level Results morning.

Reading was my Firm or Insurance choice and my status shows on UCAS as 'Unconditional', does this mean my place is confirmed?

Yes – congratulations and we're thrilled you're joining us in September. You don't need to do anything – you still have your place at Reading.

Discover if your place has been confirmed

I have met or exceeded my offer conditions, what do I do next?

Congratulations, your place is confirmed! As long as we have received your results, your offer should be updated to ‘Unconditional’. You do not need to do anything at this stage; we’ll contact you via email in the next few weeks to provide more information about next steps. In the meantime, explore our Welcome pages which has useful information about the start of term.
Next steps

My place is still showing as ‘conditional’ – have you received my results?

We receive most results via UCAS. If you are unsure whether we receive your results direct from UCAS or whether you need to send them to us, check the UCAS website to see which results we receive automatically. We will be updating the records of students who are still conditional on Thursday 18 August with reasons, so please check your account to see what reason we have listed for your status. If we do need you to submit your results to us, send us a scanned copy by email to applicantresults@reading.ac.uk as soon as possible.

What if I have not met the conditions of my offer and my status is still showing in UCAS as ‘Conditional’?
Please don't worry. We will still aim to make a decision by Thursday 18 August or as soon as possible thereafter. We're able to offer some flexibility if you've missed your offer conditions, so keep checking your UCAS account for our decision. If we aren’t able to make a decision by 18 August, we will update your UCAS account with our reason why.
What to do if your offer still shows as Conditional
I've not met the conditions of my offer but my place is showing as ‘Unconditional’ on UCAS – is this right?
We're able to offer some flexibility if you miss your conditions, so the decision on your UCAS account is not an error. Congratulations on being accepted and we look forward to meeting you.

I've been made ‘Unconditional’ by my Firm/Insurance university, but I’ve changed my mind and want to apply to the University of Reading. What should I do?
You can apply to Reading via Clearing. You will need to release yourself from the other university which you can do via the 'Decline my place' option on your UCAS application. We have lots of helpful information about applying to Reading through Clearing.
How to apply to Reading
I have been unsuccessful in securing a place at Reading, which was my Firm/Insurance choice. What do I do now?
We review all applications to see if we're still able to offer a place in spite of conditions being missed, but please bear in mind that competition for places is high – unfortunately, we cannot accommodate everyone. If you have extenuating circumstances that affected your final results, please get in touch with the relevant information and we will review your application. If you had already told us about any extenuating circumstances before your results were released, we would have taken them into consideration.

If the University of Reading was your Firm/Insurance choice, but on receiving your results we weren’t able to confirm your place, we are unfortunately unable to consider you through Clearing for the same course. If you would like to be considered for another course, please ring our Clearing hotline or complete our online application form.
What to do if you were unsuccessful
Will you be able to give me my results?
We can't give out any results, so make sure you arrange to collect these from your school or college. If you are going to be unavailable during results time, make alternative arrangements to receive your results with your school or college.

I'm away on Results Day. Can my parent or guardian call the Confirmation hotline on my behalf?
We are bound by all applicable data protection laws to treat your application confidentially, so we normally cannot discuss it with anyone else. However, you can nominate an alternative person to communicate with us on your behalf. If you'd like to nominate someone else, email us at ugadmissions@reading.ac.uk with the name and contact details of the nominated person. Remember to include your full name, UCAS personal ID and/or Reading ID number.

questions about change of course

I hold an unconditional offer. Can I change my course?

If you've chosen the wrong course and would like us to consider you for an alternative one, please complete our Change My Offer Request Form. If there are places available, we will consider you for that course and let you know whether the change has been approved or not.
How to change your course

I've been made an unconditional offer on a different course than the one I applied for. What do I do now?

We may make you an unconditional offer for a different course than the one you originally applied for, if, for example, you missed your grades on your original course but met the requirements for an alternative course. If you have an unconditional ‘change of course’ offer, please consider whether the course would be something you would be interested in studying. You can get in contact with our Admissions Team on +44 (0) 118 378 8372 or email ugadmissions@reading.ac.uk and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about your change of course offer.
How to change your course
How do I respond to my change of course offer?
To respond to this unconditional 'change of course' offer, please log on and reply through your UCAS account within five days. After five days, if you've not accepted or declined our offer, UCAS will automatically decline it for you.

Questions about deferrals

I would like to defer my place to 2023. How do I do this?

Please complete our Change My Offer Request Form. Please note: you will still need to meet the terms of your offer by 7 September 2022 to defer your place. Don't worry if you don't hear back from us right away; we're busy processing Clearing applications but will process deferrals as soon as possible. We're only able to defer your application to the next year of entry (e.g. if you hold an offer for September 2022 entry, we can only defer your offer to September 2023 entry). If for any reason you are unable to meet the conditions of your offer, you can re-apply for entry the following year through UCAS.

I have deferred my place to September 2023, but I've changed my mind and would like to start in September 2022. How do I change this?

Please complete our Change My Offer Request Form. Please note: you will still need to meet the terms of your offer by 7 September 2022 to guarantee your place.

Questions about accommodation

When will I hear about my application for accommodation?

The University will automatically confirm your place with the Accommodation Team, so you do not need to contact them unless you have any particular concerns. The Accommodation Team are usually able to issue your room offer within five working days of your place with us becoming unconditional. The Team will contact you via email (using the email address you provided on your application) so check your inbox regularly, including any spam/junk folders.

Your offer will detail the type of room and the hall that you have been allocated (e.g. a premium en-suite room in Mackinder Hall). It will also include the date that you will be invited to arrive, the cost of your accommodation, and your payment instalment dates. Visit our accommodation pages for additional information.

The University of Reading was my Insurance choice. How do I apply for accommodation?

Firstly, if you are currently confirmed at your Firm choice, but you would now prefer to take up your place Reading and have met all of the conditions of your offer here, you'll need to ask your Firm choice institution to reject you so that you can be confirmed at Reading as your Firm choice. Once you're firmly placed with us and your offer has been made unconditional, you're eligible to apply for accommodation.

Non-guaranteed accommodation applications for Insurance candidates will open from Thursday 18 August. To apply, please log on to Me@Reading Applicant from Monday 20 August. If you've not logged on before, your username is your eight-digit Reading ID and your password is your date of birth (in the format "ddmmyyyy"). Select "Accommodation" from the Actions menu at the top of the screen, which will take you to the Student Accommodation Online application system where you make an application.

Please note: a place in halls cannot be guaranteed if Reading is or was your Insurance choice. The number of available rooms varies from year to year depending on the number of Firm acceptances to the University. Students originally holding Insurance offers should explore alternative accommodation arrangements if University accommodation is full. You'll be provided with further information and guidance if this situation arises. You can also view Reading University Students' Union's advice on finding alternative accommodation.
