Clever Cuisine
If you would rather avoid the hassle of shopping for food – and have access to a wide range of cuisines – a catered hall may be for you.
Clever Cuisine offers three Eating Plans that are available for students with both catered and self-catered accommodation. With 13 catering outlets spread across halls, Whiteknights and London Road Campus, there’s a large selection of food for students to choose from. Visit Clever Cuisine’s website to find out what nutritious and delicious foods they offer. Go out to eat or stay in- the choice is yours.
How does the Catered Package work?
Money is loaded onto your card weekly with the amount depending on what type of Eating Plan you’ve chosen. Your balance will begin on Saturday at 00:01 and end on Friday at 23:59. The money can’t be carried over to the following week so your weekly balance will need to be spent each week. You’re free to spend your weekly credit as you wish so take a look at our interactive campus map and explore the catering outlets available.
Eating plans
There are three Eating Plans available for students, which are Silver, Gold and Platinum either by the term or year.
Silver Eating Plan: With the Silver Eating Plan you have £40.53 to spend weekly, which equates to 5-7 meals per week. You receive a free coffee or Freestyle (soft drink) with a meal at St. Patrick’s Dining Room. This Eating Plan is included in room rents at St. Patrick’s Hall.
Gold Eating Plan: With the Gold Eating Plan you have £44.87 to spend weekly, which equates to 7-11 meals per week. On this plan, you get unlimited hot drinks- the perfect way to start your day! This is the most popular plan for students in self-catered halls.
Platinum Eating Plan: With the Platinum Eating Plan you have £73.29 to spend weekly, which equates to 18-21 meals per week. On this plan, you get unlimited hot drinks or Freestyle, which you can pick weekly! This plan is included in your rent for all Catered accommodation except St. Patrick’s Hall and is our most popular plan.
Our catered halls offer a choice between en-suite rooms and traditional rooms with shared bathrooms. You will also find small kitchenettes to prepare snacks and small meals.
Key information
catered rooms with shared bathrooms
These halls have the platinum eating plan included, except St. Patrick's Hall which has the bespoke Silver eating plan. Our eating plans allow you to eat at the catering facility in, or near, the hall or at other selected catering outlets. Visit the Clever Cuisine website for more information. The catering package is only provided during term time and residents cater for themselves during the Christmas and Easter vacation. Shared kitchenettes are available for preparing simple meals and drinks.
All of the halls are a short walk from the campus centre and are conveniently located for local shops, eating places, and buses to Reading town centre and station.
Each hall has access to a Group Reception where staff are available to assist with enquiries. The facilities at each group include a laundry, bike sheds/stands and post boxes.
You can opt for a standard room or a recently upgraded standard room (for a small increase in price).
