The University of Reading has been working with the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) since 2013, and we have developed a one-of-a-kind strategic partnership between Russia and the UK.

We believe that this collaboration provides exciting and unique opportunities for students and staff, and enables us to bring together a wide variety of expertise to improve and push the boundaries of our teaching and research across our institutions.

Double Master's with MGIMO

As part of the University's strategic partnership with MGIMO, the Department of Politics and International Relations offers a Double Master's in International Security Studies with MGIMO.

It is a full-time, 24-month programme taught entirely in English, where you will spend year two in Moscow.

We also welcome students who have started their degree at MGIMO to the University of Reading for their second year.

At MGIMO, the MA Governance and Global Affairs provides Russian and international students with necessary skills required for employment in international organisations. The curriculum best serves those students who are willing to become directly involved in politics, government or political organisations.

The programme provides students with profound knowledge about contemporary politics, international diplomacy, governmental and legal systems, economics and international relations and security with a focus on Russia.

At the University of Reading, our programme will give you an excellent grounding in preparation for a PhD, or for a research career at think tanks, government departments, or non-governmental organisations.

The MA is designed for students with an interest in international relations and contemporary issues of international security. This programme allows you the freedom to tailor the course to suit your particular research interests and produce a specialist research dissertation in consultation with an expert supervisor.

I chose to study the MA International Security Studies programme at Reading because of its connection to the Governance and Global Affairs programme at MGIMO in Moscow. This dual-degree arrangement allowed me to earn two master's degrees in two years. Together, I think these two educational experiences provided a really holistic perspective.
