Staff Profile:Dr Angela Bithell

Name:
Dr Angela Bithell
Job Title:
Lecturer in Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine
Responsibilities:

Reading Local Group Representative for the BNA (British Neuroscience Association)

ARUK Oxford Network Committee member

SCFP and Pharmacy Athena SWAN Committee member

Teaching on MPharm Programme (including PM3A convener)

Teaching on Pharmacy and SBS MSc/MRes Programmes (PMMR1B, BIMBC1, BIMBD1)

Areas of Interest:

My interests are in the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie normal developmental of the central nervous system (CNS) and CNS-related disorders. My research uses model systems and 'omics technologies to determine the gene regulatory networks and role of the epigenome in embryonic stem cells, neural stem cells, neurons and glia. The goal of my research group is to increasingly exploit the power of combining these tools with current bioinformatics and novel computational approaches towards a systems level understanding underpinning two central research themes:

  1. Understanding the molecular and cellular basis of neurodegenerative, neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders
  2. Investigating the regenerative potential of endogenous glial cell populations for adult central nervous system repair
