Research Studentships on offer – University of Reading

The University of Reading is inviting applications for a number of Research Studentships to commence in the Autumn Term 2005. Reading has an international reputation for the excellence of its research and the majority of its Schools and Departments achieved a score of 5 or 5* in the recent Research Assessment Exercise. Applications for all of the following studentships should be received by Tuesday 15 February 2005. Other forms of Studentship are available from the University, some of which are also open to international students; details are available on the University website at http://www.rdg.ac.uk/Studentships Reading Postgraduate Studentships pay tuition fees at the UK/EU rate and also maintenance related to the rate paid by the appropriate Research Council for the research project. Students wishing to be considered for a University studentship are required to make initial contact with and apply to the relevant School or Department before February 15, indicating that they wish to be considered for a studentship. Research Studentships in Social Science Applications are invited for up to 10 postgraduate social science research studentships in the following areas: • Agricultural and Food Economics • Business and Management • Development Studies • Economics • Economic and Social History • Education • European Studies • Health and Social Care • Human Geography • Linguistics and Applied Linguistics • Law • Politics and International Relations • Psychology • Real Estate and Planning • Sociology Research studentships are available covering UK/EU fees and maintenance costs related to the rate paid by the UK Research Councils, together with associated research and travel costs. Applicants will be expected to apply for, and accept if offered, an ESRC Studentship. Many Departments also offer supplementary funding, in the form of teaching, research support, and travel bursaries. Interdisciplinary applications and applications from overseas students are welcomed. Applicants will be expected to apply for, and accept if offered, AHRB, SAAS or ORS Studentships or other sources of external funding to attend this University, although applications are welcome from candidates who do not have access to any other funds. Candidates not selected for a full studentship will be considered for one of eight £4,000 Arts and Humanities Bursaries, £1,000 of which will be used as payment for teaching duties. The conditions for these awards is the same as for the studentships.
