Summary module description:

This module builds on the personal development planning from DMP1, enabling the student to further develop their understanding and awareness of the management of self and others; exploring themes related to conflict management and performance management. The student will explore the role of the stakeholder in organisational management and apply their understanding of approaches to stakeholder management in their own organisational context.



As indicated above, this module is benchmarked against the following Higher Apprenticeship (HA) Knowledge and Skills criteria:

1. Leading People (D3).

2. Managing People (E3, E4, E6).

3. Building Relationships (F1).

4. Awareness of Self and Others (H3, H4).

5. Management of Self (I1, I4)

Aims:

In this module a systematic knowledge of stakeholder, conflict and performance management will be deployed to allow students to consider their organisational context.Throughout, they will be exposed to the complexity, ambiguity and uncertainty that underpin many management situations.

The module aims to prepare learners to:

1. Further develop their understanding of the leadership journey present and future, current leadership theories and personal thought leadership

2. Explore functions of performance management and the implications for team effectiveness.

3. Identify preferences for handling conflict and develop strategies to positively handle this in the workplace

4. Identify key stakeholders and their roles within an organisational context.


Assessable learning outcomes:

This module explores management practice in the context of the following areas: Leading and Managing People, Building Relationships, Awareness of Self and Others, and Management of Self

By the end of the module the student will be able to achieve the following:

Additional outcomes:

Outline content:

Students will consider the functions of and approaches related to performance management and their impact on the organisation. These will then be further considered in the context of conflict management.

Students will be required to explore the roles of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, and the influence and impact of the stakeholder on the organisation’s practices. These explorations will culminate in a review of the perspective of the individual as a brand within the organisation. Conflict and coaching and mentoring to be added in


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

The module will be taught using a blended learning approach. This will include directed self-study, lectures, workshops, group discussion, experiential techniques and 1:1 coaching, as well as other learning activities. During the module, students will follow a guided-learning path that will require them to read materials,

access other core and optional learning materials and undertake a range of activities. In addition to the learning path, students will attend workshops. These are facilitated sessions that will help consolidate knowledge, apply it the workplace and develop higher order cognitive skills of analysis and evaluation. Students will be expected to relate their learning to their day-to-day work.

Students will reflect on the taught component of this module by developing a ‘My Commitment to Action’ - personal and professional development plan. This will contribute to 100% of the assessment.


Formative assessment methods:

Will be embedded in the learning path and workshop activities, discussion and peer back within the workshop sessions will be encouraged and the apprenticeship tutor and programme faculty will also provide feedback on the report as it builds through monthly writing assignments that collate the learners reflections.

Formal feedback will be provided on a project proposal.
