Summary module description:

The module is an individual student project consisting of the undertaking of the design of a specified development project and, for that project,
EITHERA Design cost plan.
OR, A method statement and programme of operations
OR A report on sustainability issues

Aims:
To give practical experience in the basic techniques related to current practice of construction cost management, (quantity surveying) or construction site management or sustainability issues related to design and construction.

Assessable learning outcomes:
For a specified proposed new built facility the production of:
•An outline design
•A proposal for the method of procurement of the construction work required
•An example of one aspect of the cost management of the project. One of a strategic cost forecast, a design cost plan, or a resource cost estimate.

Based upon identified built facility and a clients brief of requirements, a refurbishment scheme for the building with drawings and specification.

Students will be provided with a design brief for a proposed building facility, for which, working individually with tutorial guidance, the students will produce:
1.The design brief
2.The outline design
3.An initial stage cost forecast.
4.Detailed design of selected elements

AND
5.EITHER; A design cost plan
6.OR; a method statement and programme of site operations
7.OR; a report on sustainability issues

Students will undertake the project individually with tutorial guidance.

The Module Convener will apply the following penalties for work submitted late, in accordance with the University policy.
•where the piece of work is submitted up to one calendar week after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for the piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
•where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
