  • GM1IMG (Icons of Modern Germany)
  • GM3WOS (War on Screen)

Areas of Interest

  • German literature and film

Research Interests

I am interested in intersections between literature and science, and in how literature experiments with scientific knowledge. Most recently, I wrote about the history of temperature as a literary, scientific, and cultural obsession around 1900 (see, for example, Thomas Mann’s novel The Magic Mountain). I am currently researching German participation in European colonial expansion, in works of fiction and non-fiction.
