Click & Collect Service

You can now request items using our Click & Collect service.  Request an item, and we will let you know when it is ready for you to collect.

Items can be collected Monday - Sunday, 10:00 - 21:00.

When collecting items please adhere to social distancing guidelines and follow instructions from Library staff. In line with government guidance, you are expected to wear a face covering when collecting items from our Click & Collect service.

Please do not come to the Library unless you have received an email from us.

If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with coronavirus, please do not come to the Library.

Who can request items?

Students, Staff and Associates and those with a valid External borrowing membership can request items.

Those with reference only membership via the SCONUL Access Scheme cannot request items.

Currently, the Click & Collect service is limited to existing Library members. Registrations of new External borrowers has been suspended until further notice.

How can I make a Request?

Find the item on Enterprise, click on the "Place a Hold" button on the right-hand-side of the display and enter your login details - see Placing & cancelling a hold using Enterprise

If you are having problems placing holds, please email library@reading.ac.uk. Please include the full details of the item you require, along with your Student Number or User ID.

For Journals please email the Library with your details and that of the volume or item you require.

Reference material, items from the Off-site Store and Closed Access cannot be requested through the Click & Collect service and will remain unavailable until further notice.

How many items can I request?

You will be able to request 5 items at a time.

How will I know when my item is ready for collection?

We will send you notification by email when your item is ready to collect. You will have 5 days from the date of your email to collect your request.

Please do not come to the Library if you have not received an email from us.

When and how do I collect my item?

You will be able to collect your item from the Library between Monday to Sunday, 10:00 - 21:00.

Please remember to bring your Campus Card with you; you will not be able to collect the item without it. There is no need to bring your collection notification with you.

We ask that you observe social distancing guidelines at all times when collecting items. A one-way queuing system will be in operation with separate, contactless entry and exit routes. Please follow all signage and guidance from Library staff.

You will be called forward by a member of Library staff who will ask you to place your Campus Card on the table indicated. When you have placed your card on the table, please step back. A member of Library staff will then step forward to read your name and Campus Card details.  They will then collect and issue the item to your Library account. Please wait for staff to step back before coming forward to pick up your Campus Card and item.

Library staff will clean the table between each person.

How long will I be able to borrow items for?

Students, Associate members and External borrowers can borrow standard loan items for 3 weeks, unless the item is needed by another Library member.  University Staff can borrow standard loan items for 6 weeks but all items are subject to recall.

Students, Staff and Associate members can borrow  7-day loan items. These items have a band of yellow tape on their spine.

Overnight loans from the Short Loan collection will be due for return by 11:00 the following morning, seven days a week. (We will only get you an overnight loan if no other copies are available.)

Login to your Library account to check when items are due for return.

Will I be asked to return items early?

All books are issued subject to recall.  This means that we may ask you to return standard loan items earlier if they are requested by other Library members. 

We will send a recall notice to your University email address if one of your standard loan items is requested and you will normally have seven days to return the item.

If a hold is placed on a 7-day loan item, it will not be recalled but you will not be able to renew it.

How do I return items?

All items should be returned via the external Book Drop located to the right of the Library entrance.

All returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before their return is processed.  The Library's loans and fines structure has been modified to reflect this quarantine period.

I can't get to the Library - how can I get materials?

For those of you who are not in the Reading area, you can still ask your Academic Liaison Librarian whether they can source an alternative format or title for you.

What else can I do at the Library now?

Study spaces are available only to Library members - Book your space online

You can still contact your Academic Liaison Librarian, Study Advisors and Maths Support for online help and support.

The Library café is now reopen.
