Investors in People
University of Reading Library was recognised as an Investor in People organisation after achieving the Standard in July 2003.
The Library applied for recognition because of the existing commitment to staff training and development and because procedures were already in place for induction, continuous development and staff development reviews.
The application for Investor in People assessment enabled Library training and development activities to be benchmarked against a respected national standard. The standard focuses on outcomes rather than process, with an emphasis on underpinning principles and encouraging continuous improvement.
Recognition is a continuous process, and the Library was re-assessed and re-accredited at the higher Silver level in August 2014.
Benefits of IiP accreditation
- a well-trained and motivated staff
- leading to a continuous improvement in services to the Library's users
- staff who believe their training and development needs are understood and valued by their organisation/managers
