GLARGlobal Law at Reading (GLAR) is one of the leading groups of expert staff researching and teaching global law at any university in the UK. As Reading’s research hub for public international law, EU law and human rights law it has a proud international reputation for research excellence in these areas.

At GLAR we have particular strengths on topics relating to international peace and security, such as cyber warfare, the role and responsibilities of the UN, UN peace operations and other global crises from a range of perspectives. We also have strong expertise in international human rights law and refugee law with experts working on UN human rights bodies, current refugee crises, children’s rights, and more. We offer unique interdisciplinary expertise with our researchers engaging with other research divisions across the university including Global Development and Politics and International Relations. Our academic staff publish leading works in these fields and many are heavily engaged in policy and practice in both the UK and overseas.

GLAR places itself at the cutting edge of Global Law and as a result has a thriving postgraduate research community. In addition to ad hoc events that address current international affairs, we run an annual series of events as part of the Ghandhi Research Seminar Series – which attracts internationally-renowned external speakers from around the world.

SEMINAR SERIES

The seminar series was launched in 2015. It is named in honour of Professor Sandy Ghandhi, who taught at the School of Law from 1978 to 2013 and remains an emeritus professor at Reading. Upcoming events are displayed to the right of the page.
