Kieran Lee Marshall is a Lecturer in Law (Assistant Professor in Law) at the School of Law, University of Reading. Prior to joining the University of Reading in January 2020, he was a Teaching Fellow in Law at The Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London (2017-2019) and a Tutor and Researcher in Law at Durham Law School, University of Durham (2014-2017). Having entered university on an access course as a mature student, he read natural and social sciences and then psychology and neurosciences as an undergraduate before later converting to law as a postgraduate. Before entering academia, he worked in psychiatry for over a decade.

Alongside his full-time role as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Reading, Kieran Lee is a part-time College Lecturer and Supervisor in Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge (2019-present) (part-time) and a Visiting Lecturer and Researcher in Law at Durham Law School, University of Durham (2017-present) (sessional). In 2018/2019 he served as the Erasmus Lecturer and Professor in Law at the Fachbereich Rechtswissenschaft, Freie Universität Berlin, and will serve a second-term in summer 2020/2021.

Areas of Interest

By way of research, Kieran Lee is a private law scholar, and his primary research interests lie in the field of professional regulation, discipline, liability, and employment law. Other interests include commercial, corporate, and private client law; sustainability and environmental law; food and waste law; animal rights and welfare law, and jurisprudence and socio-legal studies. Alongside his primary obligations, he has two research projects planned for 2020-2027.

With respect to teaching, Kieran Lee is experienced in three core areas: the law of property (land law) (Reading, King's, Cambridge and Durham); equity and trusts (King's and Durham), and employment (Durham and FU Berlin), which he has taught at undergraduate or postgraduate level. He has previously taught the law of tort (Birkbeck) and legal systems and methods (UK, commonwealth, and comparative) (Birkbeck and FU Berlin).

At the University of Reading, Kieran Lee currently teaches (undergraduates) or supervises (postgraduates) on the following modules or degree pathways:

  • Land Law (LLB, Law, all pathways)
  • Introduction to Property Law (BSc/MSc, Real Estate and/or Planning)
  • Advanced Legal Studies (LLM, Law)
  • Human Rights (LLM, Law)
  • Commercial Law (LLM, Law)

From September 2020, he will become Module Convenor for Land Law.
