Areas of Interest

Amanda's PGCAP dissertation researched practical methods of embedding employability through collaborative curriculum design. Her pedagogic interests include employability, student partnerships, the use of technology in teaching and student support.

Amanda's other research interests relate to vulnerable individuals in the criminal and family justice systems.

Amanda was awarded University PLanT funding (Partnerships in Learning and Teaching) to support her Embedding Employability project in 2018. In 2019 she was awarded Teaching and Learning Dean Enhancement funding (with a Speech and Language Therapist colleague from PCLS) to run a co-curricular Inter-Professional Practical Workshop exploring the work of intermediaries and advocates within the criminal justice system.

Amanda was called to the Bar in 1996 as a scholar of Lincoln's Inn. Amanda spent 8 years practising at the Bar, specialising in criminal law, family law and personal injury work, from the Chambers of Timothy Raggatt QC at 4 King's Bench Walk. During a career break she established the online training website, offering accredited Continuing Professional Development training to the legal profession from 2004 to 2019; she was an accredited provider for the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Amanda was a consultant to the ESRC funded research project "Access to Justice for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders", advising the psychologists as to witness handling, criminal practice and procedure, particularly in relation to cross-examination. She also cross-examined a significant number of children (with and without ASDs) as part of the research project.

Amanda joined the School of Law in 2015, and is particularly keen to support aspiring advocates, devising and running advocacy training and supporting mooters within the School of Law.
