Stefanie Ochel

Apart from teaching the German language at all levels, I also teach option modules in linguistics for the first and second years. In Part 1, I teach "The inner life of the German language", and in Part 2, "Words in Action", an introduction to linguistic pragmatics.

As a Lektorin on behalf of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), I am responsible for Summer Course scholarship applications, and for advice on postgraduate study opportunities in Germany. If you are interested in taking part in a Summer Course at a German University, please do not hesitate to contact me.

For those interested, I also offer an informal fortnightly German reading circle for Part 2 and Part 3 students, where we read short prose and/or poems (depending on students' preferences) by German-speaking authors. Please contact me to find out more.

My areas of interest include linguistic typology and language contrasts, contemporary German grammar, and foreign language teaching and learning. I am particularly interested in the language of research.

I was educated at the University of Bonn, where I read Linguistics, English and German. I also have a certificate in teaching German as a foreign language. Before joining the German department here at Reading University in 2009, I taught at the Universities of Helsinki, Bonn, and Durham.
