The JIBS acronym expands to JIsc (assisted) Bibliographic dataserviceS. 'JISC assisted' is interpreted broadly, to include those bibliographic and full text data services which are made available to the Higher Education and related communities through the assistance of bodies such as JISC and CHEST.

• The User Group is independent of JISC, and its principal aims are:
  • to stimulate and maintain interest in the use of JISC supported online bibliographic and related services
  • to provide an effective and independent forum for discussion and information exchange between the users of JISC supported online bibliographic and related services
  • to bring matters of concern to the attention of the data suppliers and the data service providers
  • to influence collectively the development of JISC supported online bibliographic and related products and services
