Message from the Vice-Chancellor: thank you and merry Christmas

Vice-Chancellor Robert van der Noort

The following message was sent to all colleagues from Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort.

Dear colleagues,

In preparing to write this message, I had the opportunity to reflect on my message to you a year ago. It talked about 2019 being an eventful, often challenging, year and the need for us to work together to build an institution that engages positively with the world around us.

While 2020 turned out to be more eventful and challenging than any of us could have imagined, I am extremely proud of how we have responded to the challenge of COVID-19 - adapting where we needed to, improvising and innovating where it was possible to, partnering with other organisations where it was prudent to and being a responsible citizen of the world we live in.

Thank you for everything you have done this year, including supporting additional demands that COVID-19 placed on our institution. Together we have been able to provide our students as positive an experience of the University as possible under the circumstances.

It is this spirit of working together that we are celebrating in this year's Christmas card, shared below. The llamas pulling Santa's sleigh reflect our expertise in drug research and animal husbandry, which is helping scientists find new drugs to treat COVID-19.

It has been a demanding year and many colleagues will continue working over the closure period to keep our campus safe and to continue responding to the COVID-19 situation. This is hugely appreciated. However, I hope everyone manages some rest over the Christmas closure period.

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Robert
