Reading Climate Festival - Quiz the University of Reading Experts

Do you have a burning question on climate change or on how climate affects our lives in Reading and the UK? As part of the Reading Climate Festival, you have a unique opportunity to hear about the exciting and vital climate research going on at the University of Reading and to talk to the experts about their work. Over three nights during the Festival, we will be running ‘Quiz the Experts' sessions between 8pm and 9pm. Each night has a different theme, covering a different aspect of climate science:

Online Public Lecture Series - Your Voice Speaks Volumes: what accent change in English can tell us about England

Wednesday 11 November, 19:00-19:45

Why do we speak the way we do, and why do accent differences in British English fascinate some people and infuriate others? In this online lecture, Professor Jane Setter will explore the origins of different accents of English in England, recent changes in the way we speak, and how language and attitudes to it are a reflection of so many other discipline areas, including history, geography, sociology, politics and economics. Jane Setter is Professor of Phonetics in the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics and a National Teaching Fellow.

Online Alumni Lecture: Dr Lawrence Haddad - The Private Sector and Global Nutrition: Are Businesses Heroes or Villains?

We are delighted to announce the next event in our inspirational Alumni Lecture Series, taking place online on Wednesday 18 November at 18.30 (UK time). The event will feature alumnus Dr Lawrence Haddad (BSc Food Science and Food Economics, 1980) and will be entitled The Private Sector and Global Nutrition: are businesses heroes or villains? Lawrence is a British economist who has forged an influential career in food, agriculture and nutrition and is currently Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
