New BAME Network at the University
Thursday, 23 January 2020
A new network aimed at Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) colleagues has been launched at the University.
The UoR BAME Network is led by Bolanle Adebola (School of Law) and Santosh Sinha (Marketing, Communication & Engagement) and aims to:
- provide a supportive space for BAME colleagues to engage with one another
- support BAME career progression through targeted communications and programmes
- champion increased BAME representation on key University committees
- support the transition of new BAME colleagues into the University
- support BAME researchers during their research and work at the University
- contribute to the creation of a culturally inclusive University
"Over the past few months, we have been speaking to a number of colleagues about their experience of working at the University," say Bolanle and Santosh. "There is clear sense of pride and community, but many colleagues feel frustrated by a lack of clarity on how to progress their careers and what support and guidance is available to them. The UoR BAME Network seeks to provide a safe and supportive space for BAME colleagues to discuss these challenges and support ways to overcome these."
The network will hold termly events to bring together BAME colleagues – the first of which is a lunchtime session scheduled for Wednesday 5 February (128 Edith Morley, 12:00-13:00). To help us plan the arrangements, please complete this form.
If you’d like to join the network, or are simply interested in hearing from us, please sign up through Microsoft Teams or by emailing bame.network@reading.ac.uk.
